The LinkedIn Creator: Inspiring conversations that matter

LinkedIn has come a long way since its launch in 2002. With 20 years on its resume, it’s not surprising that it’s decided to innovate and embrace the times. We know that for many professionals, LinkedIn is a place to share and connect.

Being a creator on LinkedIn helps you build your brand, lead meaningful conversations, grow your business, and empower others through a connected community.

On LinkedIn, the creator is akin to Instagram’s influencer, and I'm here to talk all about why you should be one and how LinkedIn’s creator tools can help you reach your goals.

What is a LinkedIn Creator?

Isn’t anyone who posts a creator? Not exactly. In order to be dubbed a creator by LinkedIn’s standards, you have to be an individual, business, or organization regularly posting educational or inspirational content.

This is obviously a big shift from the personal posts people have about their latest promotion or job goals for the new year.

LinkedIn Creators use the platform’s Creator Mode (more on that next) to increase their reach and build a following. This is an option available to anyone as opposed to LinkedIn Influencer, an invite-only program for industry leaders and experts. - Do you want to share, inspire, and educate others with your unique expertise? - Do you want to lead a community, grow your business, or build a recognizable brand? - Then LinkedIn Creator is your answer! - How to Become a Creator on LinkedIn

Start by switching your profile to creator mode. This can be done by clicking on profile settings from your dashboard. Turning on creator mode gives you access to exclusive analytics designed to help you grow your reach and start connecting with the right people for your content.

Once you’ve made the change, you can select topics to display on your profile through hashtags. This will tell people what you post about, and it makes it easier for new connections to find you through search.

You’ll also gain access to creator-only tools. If you meet the criteria, you can host streams on LinkedIn Live or run a LinkedIn Newsletter. Even if you don’t meet the qualifying criteria right away, you can use the creator analytics to build your brand, expand your reach, and improve your content strategy.

Creator Analytics to Know About

The creator analytics are complete game changers for anyone who wants to be a creator on LinkedIn! Instead of measuring a post’s success by its likes, comments, and shares, you get behind-the-scenes insights that make it easier to gauge how well your content is really performing.

For example: - Impressions tell you how many times someone saw your posts. - Engagement tells you how many times people interacted with your posts. - Engagement demographics break down your viewing audience by details like job title, age, and location. - Performance review for set time periods, from the last 7 days to a whole year, to track growth and identify trends among your audience.

These are the core analytics that fuel the creator’s side of the platform. You’ll be able to fine-tune your own stats to suit your preferences. Aligning your objectives with real data has never been easier.

Even if you don’t have a background in social media management, the creator analytics are clear, easy-to-understand, and provide immediate value to your content strategy.

How to Improve Your Presence on LinkedIn Creator

While every industry has its own “rules of the trade,” there are some golden principles you can apply to your content that will help it shine on LinkedIn.

Focus on one or both of these scopes at all times: educate and empower.

If your content teaches someone something, they should feel like they’re now more capable than they were before reading your post.

For content that empowers, you should use your lived experience and professional knowledge to uplift, encourage, and guide readers toward their goals.

And remember, be yourself! Although you might be trying to establish yourself or your company as an authority, you shouldn’t shy away from personality. Make an impression by being authentic, and let your voice shape your connections.
